—THIS WEEK: Open Slam and DJ Agana. Our open slam
has been simply amazing for months now, with a
fresh crop of poets bringing intense new work every
week. And rumor has it that heavyweight performer
Taalam Acey will be in the house!
Featuring Two incredible veteran performers: Team
Boston/Cantab’s Caroline Harvey and J*me. Caroline
caused a sensation when she lit up the NorCal scene
in ‘04 and had her choice of teams. Since moving
back to Boston she’s been on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam.
Her work is white-knuckle intense and shockingly
intimate. She could break a wine glass with a
whisper. http://www.carolineharvey.com J*me has
been a cornerstone of the Boston slam scene for
years, a powerful performer featuring in the Bay
for the first time. He’s won awards for "Best
Erotic Male Performance Poet" and "Best Slam Poet
Male."
—LAST WEEK: It was the Musical Open Mic, so we
didn’t have the scores, but we sure had great
poetry and music without the stress! Standouts
included numerous virgin poets, new work from
local stars such as: Steven, Sara Lihz, Nazelah,
Murphy, and many others. Hot new poets such as
Christian Drake and Deanne.
Our features were both
Berkeley Poetic Titans: Dawn delivered a set of his
top slam poems and one new piece in his first
feature ever. Former Berkeley Team member and
Suicide King, Geoff Trenchard brought down the
HOUSE with a set of poems so skillfully polished,
you could see reflections of legends like Bukowski
gleaming between the lines.
